Welcome! You're on this academy's page in the MATCO Collective. Save it, share it, or see where you can train with this team abroad.
Island Jiu-Jitsu began in 2010 as a backyard club in Hawai'i Kai run by Jason Vigil, who had been teaching friends in his garage since 2004. After subleasing spaces around Honolulu and a period at Puck's Alley near the university, the academy moved to its current dojo at 760 Halekauwila Street in Kaka'ako, opened in 2015. Vigil received his black belt in 2013 from Jason Izaguirre of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Kailua.
The academy states a philosophy of "no politics, gracious teaching and team unity" and keeps an open-door policy for visitors from any affiliation, with drop-in classes and no contracts. Classes run from 6 AM to 8 PM seven days a week and cover adult fundamentals, gi, no-gi and competition training, keiki classes from age 3, youth classes from age 9, a monthly women-only self-defense workshop and Saturday judo.
