If you’re picturing all-night clubs, Nosara will surprise you. This is a surf and wellness town where most people are up for the dawn session, so nightlife is relaxed, friendly and usually wraps up at a reasonable hour. That’s exactly why it works so well on a training trip: you can enjoy a great night out and still make it to the mats in the morning.

Start with the sunset

The main event every evening is the sunset. Locals and visitors drift down to the beach in the late afternoon to watch the sky change color over the Pacific. Playa Guiones is the easy option a few minutes from Jungle’s Edge, and Playa Pelada, with its rocky points and beachfront spots, is a long-time favorite for a drink as the sun goes down.

Live music and a night out

Nosara has a handful of spots with live music and DJ nights, spread between Guiones and Pelada. Long-running favorites include The Gilded Iguana in Guiones, known for live music nights, and La Luna and Olga’s on Playa Pelada for sunset drinks right on the sand. If you want to dance, there’s usually a Latin night somewhere in town on the weekend. Line-ups change with the season, so check each venue’s social media for what’s on the week you visit.

Start at home base

Some of the best evenings never leave the property. Tree Tops Restaurant at Jungle’s Edge serves wood-fired pizza, smoothies and cocktails like mojitos and piña coladas right by the pool, which makes it easy to hang out with your training group after the last session.

Getting around at night

Many roads in Nosara are unpaved and not well lit. Plan your ride before you head out: taxis, a quick drive, or an ATV if you’ve rented one. If you’re walking, bring a flashlight.

Sunset on the sand, dinner with your training partners, and a good night’s sleep before the morning session.

Balance it with training

A night out is part of the experience, but hydrate well and go easy if you have an early class. Your body will thank you on the mats the next day. Planning a trip? Read our Nosara guide or build your Train-cation.
